Mistake #1,008,903: The Cup-Cake

So, I'm a huge fan of cake. That is something I don't really voice much because me family has such an affinity for pie. That's besides the point. So I was reading my daily blogs and came across this one...and I'm not going to lie to you, I got excited; really excited. I told my mom all about it and she warned me saying, "Nothing baked in a microwave is good." (someone should cross stitch that onto a pillow)
All I could think about is cake, how I could add things like coconut and bananas to my new found cup-cakes... My mind was clogged with thoughts of cake; drizzling warm peanut butter and honey over it. I'VE GOT TO GET SOME CAKE!! (this is literally what has been going through my mind for the past 24 hours.
I found the perfect time. 3:22pm, the optimal snacking time. I casually walked into the kitchen and found my mom working on her computer at the kitchen table. I casually mention oh I think I'm going to try that cup-o-cake (cup-cake) thing I found on the computer. I meticulously measure the amounts of flour, sugar, milk, oil, cocoa, crack the egg and mix. I put it in the microwave and watch it rise like a little leaning tower of Pisa is growing out of chocolate cake and then it is time. It is time to take it out put it on the plate so it looks exactly like the above picture and take the first bite. A few words came to mind...

Chewy...

and a little bit rubbery...

oh this is TERRIBLE!

I tried it with the warm peanut butter and bananas but it still tasted gross. Please heed my warning...don't try to bake in the microwave. Suddenly the old phrase comes to mind, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Well take out the probably because it is too good to be true.
Next time I'll do it the old fashioned way...

  2. I went to the original site. It said "Cake Flour". Did you use cake flour or all purpose? That may make a difference (but probably not if it was rising like it should). Too bad. I still want to try it..But I'll take your advice. It's probably not worth the calories.

  3. Try it Em, I'm sure your kids would eat some of it. It actually gives you a lot of cake. I only could eat 1/3 of it. Partly because it was filling, partly because it was gross.
I did use regular flower, but mom said it was ok.

  4. That email went around our office. Everyone was talking about it. I'll heed your warning, though. PS: I think that pillow would be an awesome Christmas Gift for mom!
