Gallery Wall

I have a gallery wall in my bathroom.  Why not give people something to look at, right?  Anyhow, instead of showing you a crappy photo of my bathroom wall I'm showing you a virtual one.  In my real bathroom I have a photo of a day lilly that was named after me, Kayleigh Ann.  I have a water color painting of that flower done by my dad. I have a print of the above "look for the silver lining" picture of a hot air balloon.  Lastly I have a scherenschnitte, we found in Herman, MO on our one year anniversary.  I like the idea of mixing personal things with pretty prints.

I think etsy is the perfect place to find cute artwork and prints for your home.  There are so many options, everybody can find something that fits their personal style.  Here is where I found all of the above...

Living Room Realization

When did people get so informal?  I've been living my short adult life so casually.  Why don't we bring back real paper invitations, serving dinner on china, and dressing up?  I feel like looking nice shows the people that I'm with that I respect them enough to spend a little more time and effort on my appearance.  Maybe I'm just growing up or maybe I'm just falling in love with lush fabrics and wanting an excuse to bring them in my life.

All of that to say, I'm looking into having a more formal living room.  I'm just starting to buy furniture for that room.  I already have the couch and coffee table pictured above.  I'm thinking it would be awesome to have navy velvet arm chairs to complement the neutral tones.  I love the idea of mixing rich textures by adding in dark throw pillows like the ones pictured above, too.

BTW.... all the furniture is from Home Decorators and the pillows are from H&M!

Vintage Home Goods

I've been playing on etsy a little too much lately.  I usually go to etsy and just look at jewelry, clothing, and accessories.  Etsy has everything!  Here are some of my favorite home items.

My Heart is Home

I love finding excuses to use decorations from my wedding.  After buying this large mercury glass candle after the holidays from Target, I decided it would look great with my mini milk glass vases.  I added red daisies, just like the ones in my wedding too!  They add so much life to my family room.

PS.  Check out the couch in the background.  Our latest big purchase!

Painted Pillows

I finally made new pillows!  You might remember the last ones I made...see them here.  They were so simple to make.  For the chevron pillow I used masking tape on the fabric to create a zig-zag pattern, than I used a sponge brush to brush the gold paint over the fabric.  When it dried, I peeled off the paint and lastly sewed it into the pillow.  The polka dot pillow was even easier.  I used a circle shaped sponge brush and stamped the fabric.

I love the way they turned out.  I really wanted a simple and stream lined new pillow design.

Wishing for Fall

The midwest heat has finally broken.  Today's high in the upper 80s felt down right like fall compared to what we've been living with for the past month.  I've found some really sophistocated fall decor I thought I thought I'd share with you...

mmmm.... seeems kinda lovely.  I can't wait for that crisp breeze!

Redeemed

When at first you don't succeed; try, try again.

I took off all of the crocheted flowers from the pillow I made a little while ago and decided to make it look better some how.  I tied them together by the petals in neat little rows.
Then with the few that I had left over I sewed onto the original pillow that is a huge granny square.

On the other side of booth pillows I have the chevron pattern.  I don't know about you, but I love chevron!

Here is where I posted the chevron pattern that I used!

I'm home

My family vacation was pretty great.

I saw the Grand Canyon for the first time. Even though I was a little drugged out on Dramamine I still enjoyed it.

We hung out in Arizona seeing stuff that Frank Lloyd Wright built and more.

Then we headed back to San Diego and did all the tourist stuff we could including the world famous San Diego zoo.

We got back to St. Louis and about 36 hours later I went to Branson, MO with my BFF and my sister and her family. We laughed a lot and had a good time. I especially enjoyed hanging out with these kids.
