Ok so it all started when I was listening to NPR on the way to and from work this week. They were of course on the same topic, IRAN.
Both times they were discussing twitter and the information people get from the revolutionist via twitter. The DJ and the history specialist were talking about the validity of tweets depending on the the twittor. The specialist said something along the lines of he trusts that the tweet from a guy who has been on twitter for six months and has a history of tweeting political opinions about Iran and claims to live in Iran is someone that he would trust.
It got me thinking.... If there were ever large protests running through the streets of Ballwin, I think I would want to be apart of it. What if something crazy, street riot or not, happened and I could record the history via twittering. I want to be a viable source. So I'm starting to twitter....so that I may later join a revolution.

3 years later

I cooked Brian dinner for our 3 year anniversary and while the lasagna was baking I looked at my mess and realized that I'm like one of those kids that cooks for their parents but the parents come home and see the mess and are overwhelmed. Don't worry mom, I cleaned it up!

So I made this cake and it was delicious!!!! I made a two layer yellow cake. I also made chocolate pudding pie filling and used it in between the cake layers. Then I made more chocolate pudding and mixed some coolwhip with it and iced the cake. It is so easy and yummy...and full of tons of pudding!

This is one of the place settings...I tried to make it all fancy.

Yummy lasagna! It turned out really well. I had two big pieces for lunch today too.

I had these as place card settings. pretty cute huh...

Look at these gorgeous flowers Brian surprised me with after work!
I love him

I am in the process of canceling my myspace page. I'm doing it because I have only used it a few times in the past year.
Who knew that it was such a process to cancel a social networking profile?

timeless

How do people take the most perfect pictures? This picture looks so timeless. It is one of those pictures that their kids will be fighting over who gets to put it in their house.
Maybe it is what they are wearing that makes it so timeless. I'm going to start wearing hats and scarves everywhere and make Brian wear a hat too just so we can be ready. We'll be ready to be doing an adorable activity like sparklers and ready for someone to want to take a quick snapshot of our perfect lives together.

That D*** Pool
ugh...
I have been responsible for the pool and hot tub for almost a week and a half now and it is hard work.
I have cried over the dumb thing twice now! If you know me at all you also know that this is not a big feat to be made.
The first time is when I found two dead mice in one of the skimmer pots. Brian had to come over and take care of it for me. I got a nice reminder this morning when I took the garbage out to the curb and thought to myself, "UGH what died in here! It smells so bad!...oh yeah two mice." Talking about it still makes this phenomenon occur in which my face contorts and my voice resort to a four-year-0lds.
The second of which happened today. Let me preface this with the fact that we have had a lot of rain in the past two days and more is in the forecast. When I came home from work this morning at 6:30am...I took a look at the pool and noticed the water level was very high. So when I got up after sleeping at 2pm I called my dad and he told me to back wash the pool...Long story short I got it stuck on some knob that we weren't sure what it did. So I had to ask my neighbor, whom I've never said anything besides hello to, to come over and help me! We could not figure out how to do it. So after a half an hour of phone calls and awkward conversation with the neighbor I got it back to were it started and the water level is still very high.
All that work for nothing!

Remember this is the normal level....

My dad calmed me down by telling me that if the pool over flowed it would be no worse than if we just had a patio in the back yard and all the leaves would probably flow out too!

The Smocking Guild
My mom has always worn many hats throughout my life. The first one that I can remember would be the sewing mom. My mom sewed a lot of my clothes when I was a little girl. She smocked most of them too.

My parents had a picture of me in this little romper when I was four. I probably wore this 89-90. I loved it! What is really funny is that my hair is the exact same as it was in that picture. It's long, parted on the side, and my bangs are being held back by a barrett.
Check out the skill! This is amazing detail of this mouse on the smocked romper! My mom and a few of her friends joined the smocking guild. They met in the library. (All I can remember is that there were a lot of really old ladies in it, and I wasn't sure what they did in the meetings. But afterwords they would go to Apple Bees until 2 am and drink lots of Diet Coke.... and laugh) The only thing I knew was that when the smocking guild ladies came over to the house I couldn't sleep because they were laughing too loud.
How thoughtful of my mom to make this a romper for a little girl who ran around all day. I have another memory of this fabric too. My mom sewed on a skirt out of this fabric to a black t-shirt of mine that we decorated with puff paints. There may have even been some iron on crayons on that T-shirt too. I still love crayons.
This was made in 1994. My mom even won the opportunity to have it photographed for a sewing magazine. Of course my little third grader self got to be the model. It was awesome.
My mom embroidered the alphabet in herbs around the hem of the skirt. How cute is that?

Of course she made me all of the appropriate accessories too.
So the lesson learned is that my mom had an interest in sewing and thought it would be cool to join an old lady sewing club with a few of her friends.....gee that doesn't sound at all like me. It's not like I want to start a crocheting club or anything (anyone interested?)
This is just a post about how awesome my mom is and how much I love her. There might be a few more like this later on this week.

Hippie Quilt

My great-grandmother Launa Henley made this quilt for my mom in the early '70s. It has no batting. It is held together by yarn tied at the corner of the squares. Great-Grandmother Launa Henley called it the hippie quit. I have always called it the picnic quilt. My mom has always brought it along for picnics or to lay on during fireworks on the fourth of July. When I got my first car at the age 18 I put this blanket in the trunk. I have had many picnics on it since. I like to take it to the park with a book and read.

I just love the fabrics in this quilt. Especially the one above.

Look at those delicate hand stitches that line the border! I love the history of it. I love the idea that my great-grandmother made this just for my mom when she was a young teenager. She had no idea how much a twenty something would love it 35 years later.
I told my mom today that the quilt was now mine.
