All About that Bass Pastel

I know I keep talking about Meghan Trainor's song All About that Bass.  I'm working on getting some extra printables to match this as well!  So be on the look out there!

The style of her video is so simplistic and fun.  The colors are girly and vibrant, so I decided to make a party invitation that has that same look and feel.

Here is a clip from the video...

The color in this picture is some how a little brighter than it really is on the invite.  You can see a birthday invite here, and a bachelorette invite here.

Windows!

Thursday is Window day.  Therefore we must update our window displays!  Because we are going with the back to school mommy mannequin, I decided to do something Anthropologie circa 2000.  It represents learning, school, fall everything we all imply for the season.  I found a book in my stash and cut out all of these leaves with an exacto knife.  I'm not Hitler, I recycled this book!  I found it on its way to the dumpster at a school that was no longer going to teach on this novel.  I saved it, knowing one day I'd make something out of it.  So I cut all 200+ pages worth of simple leaves.  I then stapled them together to make this garland I hung from the ceiling.  I draped the back ground with thick natural colored craft paper.  I even stuck a few leaves to the mannie.
My philosophy on window display is as follows:

1. Use correct scale.  So many boutiques simply put some product in a window and a few props.  You need to use the space you have in a window.  Otherwise you are missing out on real estate.  You wouldn't leave a corner of your store empty, so don't do it to a window.

2.  Make a statement.  If you are going to use a fun prop use a lot of them.  Windows are fun and need to be attention grabbing.  Make people wonder how you did it.

3.  Keep product simple.  Use the window display to highlight some of your product.  Don't clutter the window with a lot of mannequins making it too busy.  Don't confuse the customer by putting too much out there.  People like clean and orderly merchandise.  PS. Usually high-end stores have less in there windows and budget stores have a lot of merchandise.  Who do you want to resemble?

4. Change often.  Give your customer a reason to come in.  Show them something new and current.  Make them think you have received new shipment (whether you have or not).  Changing your merchandising makes people think you have entirely new clothing.

5.  Be Creative with your Budget.  If you don't think you have the budget to come up with fun and creative window ideas you are cutting yourself short.  Using simple or cheap items for props isn't bad as long as you follow tips 1 through 4.  Save your money to make a few extraordinary windows throughout the year.

Kits

I made a headband kit and a bunting kit for the craft show I did last summer and have been selling them ever since.  This is the first time I've put them online!

Consignment

I had a lot of my goods in a consignment / bead shop since this past winter; Bizzy Beads.
Sadly the owner has decided to stop selling the consignment goods and focus on the beads to better her business.  This is kind of exciting news for me.  Now I have all of my product back.  I can beef up my etsy shop.  I'm really excited to get started.
Today I decided to have a photo shoot.
It was semi successful.  It was so bright out I couldn't tell if I was getting any good shots.  Some were great!  Some were ok.  Here is a shot of some of my kids headbands!
Check back at my etsy shop often to see what I'm up to!
There is a lot more coming....

Pedro the Daniel

Meet Daniel the lion!
Remember this post?  I actually finished the lion a few days later.  I think crocheting something with a pattern is MUCH faster than trying to make it up as I go. It's pretty cute isn't it.

In their Honor

In honor of Anthropologie introducing a bridal line in  2 weeks I went through the anthro website and picked out a few favorites.  Then I started to notice a theme with my choices.  I guess I'm into dark yellow right now.  There is more yellow on the website too!  I just picked out my favorites!

Go find your own faves on the website.

Blog Map

Here are some of my favorite blogs in relation to me.  Sometimes I want to go visit the towns that my favorite bloggers write in because they  write about their towns.  Sometimes I just want to move there so I can work for them.

Once Wed is in Atlanta, GA and they are looking for an intern...(I'm so sad it can't be me)

Liebemarlene Vintage is also in Atlanta, GA

Oh My Deer is in Nashville, and I really do just want to live there some day.

Wee Wonderfuls is in Chicagoland, IL, which I think just means she lives in suburbia.  Eh, so do I.

Elizabeth Dye is in Portland, OR.  We all know that  Portland is the coolest.  I would love to visit there!

Sally Jane Vintage is in Lancaster, PA.

Keiko Lynn is in Brooklyn, NY... so jealous.

A Beautiful Mess is in Springfield, MO.  I will visit her shop Red Velvet Art someday soon!

Indie Fixx lives in Delaware...sounds exotic.

Martha O Martha

Easter is almost here...

I was perusing THE Martha's website and found about a million ways to decorate eggs.  So I went through most of them and now are giving you the top 8.

Starting from the top left corner:
1.  Confetti Eggs This involves a tradition of smashing hollowed eggs with confetti on your friend's heads for good luck.  This is an awesome tradition that may need to be started by me this year!
2.  Tissue Paper Eggs
3.  Flower and Leaf Eggs
4.  Lace Eggs
5.  Botanical Eggs
6.  Paper Eggs
7.  Crepe Paper Eggs
8.  Stenciled Eggs
Conclusion, I must go on this website more often.  All hail Martha!
Have fun dying eggs this week!

Some Floral Inspirations

So I made a little inspiration board.  This is what I am thinking for the flowers at the wedding.

In the board I have a variety of mums, grasses, wheat, weeds, pine cones, twine, herbs and apples.  Don't get me wrong I am also very open to some one who knows more about fall flowers than me.  (That could be almost everyone!)  What a mix of colors!  I might need to calm the look of the wedding down a bit with more subtle colors.

What I bought at work today....

I bought this awesome dress at work today.  It is a knit, grey and white striped dress with a little braided brown leather belt.  It just has a great airy feel.  It looks like a dress I'm going to want to wear every other day in the summer.  And here is the kicker.... $14.90!  I know, right!  First chance I get I'm wearing this with leggings and my sperry topsiders.
I also bought this shirt from our new Love 21 line.  Which is a more sophisticated look for forever.  I really like their items.  It is a soft woven breezy ruffle collar shirt.  I thought this shirt would look great with a pencil skirt.

Like this one...   The belt and necklace are vintage.  The skirt is an old Forever 21 item.  I'm in love.

Spring

So this is what I want to buy at work this week...but seeing how there is snow on the ground and covering my car I just don't think it is going to happen.

They all are so springy and cute.  I even tried them all on.  It's just too cold for my brain to want to buy spring clothes yet.

This tweed coat looks like it is from the '60s.  The shape is surprisingly flattering.  It would be SO perfect for spring.  I'm in love.

This is called the "Perfect Picnic Dress"  it is $13.80.  !#*)  (That was 1380 in all caps, in case you were wondering).  How awesome is this?  That bad part is I already own something very similar and it is SO short.  Only a girl who is 5'2" should try this on.  I could add a band of 4" at the bottom, but would I?
I loved this classic denim shirt look last year and I am still loving it for this year.  I keep wanting to buy things that are similar to what I already own. I like the classic, clean look of it.
I really like this look too.  It is extremely preppy and clean looking.  In person this shirt is actually shorter than the picture shows it to be.  It would be so cute with light ankle jeans and my topsiders.  I can't wait for spring to be here so I can at least rediscover my own spring wardrobe!
I've never really been one for wedges in general.  Yet I keep finding myself putting these on all my mannequins.  I think they are so cute.  They are the perfect spring shade of brown. Who would have thought that the wedge I  would go for is a huarache sandal.  I do love my huarache sandals though!
These are just a few of the things that I'm craving for right now.

Like the Tide

I don't claim to be 100% original. With the ebb and flow of fashion certain predictions can be made. So I find it kind of awesome when I see that someone else has produced an idea I had too.
